Add A New Event
Events are added in the WordPress dashboard. This is separate from the DP dashboard (The pink and purple one).
Adding an event is broken down into two steps - setting the layout and then adding the event dates. You can decide to some degree how you want the event page to display.
Create Event Layout
Layouts on the new DP website are created using blocks. To add a new block click the blue plus sign on the add event screen.
Recommended blocks for the event layout.

- DP Section
- Logo Content
- Shortcode (To sell tickets)
- Event terms and conditions
- A ticket block will be added in future update
Lets build an example recommended layout. This will give you a good idea of how to setup up future event pages
Step 1 - Create Event Header
Press the / key to quickly bring up the block selection drop down. Select DP Event Header. A preview of the event header will be added to the page. You can either update the area that says "Add Title" or click on the large text saying "Post Title..." to add the event title. This is displayed on the frontend. In the let hand column there are three options. You can ignore these for now.
Step 2 - Add new section
Click under the added event header. Type / to bring up the block dropdown. Select DP Section. A section is the base of any new page layout.
Step 3 - Add Logo Content (Optional)
If you want to add some text content type / insude the new DP section block to bring up the block dropdown. Select the DP Logo Content block. Inside the block click the "Classic" button to add content, or the plus button to add a new paragraph of content.
Step 4 - Add shortcodes
Add Ticket pricing table (Optional)
To add the ticket selling form click under the logo content or if the section has no blocks type / to bring up the block dropdown. Select Shortcode from the drop down.
Add the shortcode [ticket_pricing_table] to display a table listing the ticket prices for the event.
Add Ticket Selection Form
To add the ticket selection form click under the logo content or if the section has no blocks type / to bring up the block dropdown. Select Shortcode from the drop down.
Add the shortcode [display_event_tickets_two] to display a form to select and purchase tickets.
Step 5 - Add terms and conditions block
Click underneath the last added block and type / to bring up the block dropdown. Select "Event Info Box New" with the purple dual rhomboid icon to bring up a block template with the ticket terms and conditons. You can amend the text and images in this if required.
Once the layout is complete click the blue Save button to save your changes and review the post.
Add Event data
Immedieately after the main content section, there are three drop down areas for the event details.
- Event Details
- API Key
- Event Deadlines
Adding Event Details
So the event displays correctly its recommended to fill out as many of these fields as possible.
Event Address and Venue: Enter the address or city where the event is taking place. If the event is Virtual you can just enter "Virtual" or leave blank
Event Venue: Enter the event venue here
Event Date: Enter the start date and time of the event. Make sure the event is in the future as past events are automatically hidden drom the frontend of the site
Hide "Book Tickets" link: Checkbox option to hide the book tickets button. This prevents direct access to the event detail and ticket booking page.
Hide Event from listings This hides the event from the main event listing on the Our Awards
Finish Date: Enter the Finish Date of the event. This is also displayed on the event detail page.
Map Location: Currently inactive
Key contact: The email address of the event manager, or whoever is handling enquiries for the event. This is displayed on the event page and in confirmation emails.
Website URL: The event website URL
Website URL Text: The event website URL Text
Event City: The city/town where the event is taking place
Add API Key
If the event is taking entries this step is mandatory. You must create an api key to connect the awards website with the Dont Panic Website so entries can be paid for. An API key is not required if the event has free entries ot the award site is using an alternative payment method.
To create an API key, click the "Create API Key" link under the API Connection field. An API key is automatically generated and added to the field. You can copy this add it in the settings for the award site to setup entry payments via Don't Panic.
Add Event Deadlines
You can add entry deadlines if required. These are displayed prominently in the Neopolitan Block which can be added to the event header. The dates added here do not have any effect on ticket or entry pricing.
Earlybird Deadline: Add the early entry deadline here

Editing An Event
The steps to edit an existing event are the same as above, except the changes will be updated on the site.
To quickly access the edit page go to the "Our Awards" page while logged in. A button will appear next to each event saying Edit Post. Click on this button to access the edit screen.
